Tony Starnes has
been the Clarendon College Head Men's Basketball Coach the past 8 years (20th
season as a basketball coach). During his eight years at the helm the
program, Starnes has made CC a tough opponent year in year out in one of the
best JC leagues in the nation. In 2003
in only his second year at Clarendon he lead the Bulldogs to the Region 5 Tournament
for the first time in 20 years, for that he was voted WJCAC
Coach-Of-The-Year. Under Starnes CC is
routinely at or near the top of the nation in scoring, and pull off upsets of
ranked opponents on a yearly basis. Prior to taking over at Clarendon, Starnes was the
Assistant Coach at Collin County CC in Plano, TX. While at Collin, he was a part of back to
back Region 5 Tournament appearances and a Conference Championship. Before Collin Coach Starnes spent 6 years at North
Mesquite HS, the last five as the Head Coach.
At NMHS his teams routinely made the playoffs and were fun to watch
leading the Metroplex in scoring almost every year. He went to NMHS after 2 record setting
years at Dodd City HS where in his first year at the helm Starnes lead them
to their first District Championship in 40 years, and then turned the trick
again his second year giving the school their first ever back to back
titles. Starnes also had a stop at
Royse City HS as an Assistant Coach. Coach Starnes start in coaching came at Howard Payne
University as an Assistant Coach, where the then NAIA member Yellowjackets
won back to back conference titles. |
