Clarendon College Baseball Program Overview

Known for many activities and sports in its 107-year existence, Clarendon College is recently being recognized for its excellence in baseball. Since Clarendon put baseball in its athletic department in the fall of 2000, it has taken off further than anybody ever expected. In just the 4th season the Bulldogs went an impressive 43-13 and won the division for a second straight year which propelled them into the Region V regional tournament. 2004 marked the first time in the programs history that they were ranked nationally which saw the Bulldogs as high as 10th in the national polls.

Clarendon College is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association and plays in the Western Junior Collage Athletic Conference (WJCAC), which includes: Frank Phillips College in Borger, New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, El Paso Community College in El Paso, Howard College in Big Springs, Midland College in Midland, Odessa Junior College in Odessa, Western Texas in Snyder, and New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell. The Clarendon Bulldogs play in NJCAA Region V, which holds its regional tournament at Lubbock Christian University located in Lubbock, Texas.

Clarendon is very fortunate to play in a baseball-enriched state where anybody any year could come out of Texas and win the national championship in Grand Junction, Colorado. Since 1980, 14 national champions have come out of the state of Texas. Not only does Texas have the most competitive junior college league in America but it is also a hot bed for recruiting.

Clarendon is set in the backyard of the Big XII conference arguably the best Division I baseball conference in America. In the five years of placing players onto the next level Clarendon has sent 14 players to Division I, 12 players to Division II, and numerous players to NAIA schools all across the country. Not only has Clarendon had great success moving players onto four-year schools, but also sending them to the professional level.  In the 2006 draft, former Bulldog Ryan Rholinger was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 6th round.  Morgan Brenson was signed by the San Francisco Giants after the 2005 season and in 2003 Angel Rohena, was picked up by the Dodgers organization and was picked as a top prospect by Baseball America.

One of the most exciting things about playing here is the people you will meet. Our program represents players from as far away as Canada, Puerto Rico, and Australia. Not only do we get players from other countries but we also represent multiple states in the United States.

Junior Colleges all over the United States generally have average to below average campuses. One thing that we are very proud of is our campus and facilities. We take pride in how clean and well maintained our buildings and housing facilities are. In the past few years the college has built a new weight room that is open for athletes daily and they have also built new dorms. The dorms are located on campus but they are apartment style so they have that off campus feel that students always want. Food is another thing that people always want to know about when looking into colleges. Great Western Dining serves Clarendon’s cafeteria. It is an all-you-can cafeteria that serves three times per day.
